Popular South Philadelphia Sports Bar Philadium Has a New Owner

Philadium Tavern, a popular bar in South Philadelphia near the sports complex, has a new owner who plans to keep the name for old times’ sake but will make changes to “usher it into the modern times.”

Philadium at 17tg Street and Packer Avenue first opened in 1978 but has been struck with a number of issues in the past few years, including a shutdown over back taxes in 2015.

The team behind food truck Philly Fry and restaurant Uncle Oogie’s Pizza closed the sale of the Philadium in mid-January and go the property after the Super Bowl, managing partner Richard Screnci told the Philadelphia Business Journal.
